History
In 1980, Al Baker decided to take his wood-working hobby to a new level, and he founded “Bakers Furniture”. Working out of the garage behind his home, Al created solid pine furniture which he and his son sold at local Flea Markets on the weekends. We continue to hear stories from people who purchased those early pieces and are still enjoying them.
Other businessmen saw the beauty of these products, and began to purchase them for resale in their own outlets. Very quickly, the demand could no longer be met by Al and he began to hire employees. Three of these dedicated and talented individuals are still crafting works of art at Kitchens by Bakers.
By the late 1980’s, Bakers Furniture had outgrown the garage. Al decided to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, and chose to include a showroom at the same location on Pefferlaw Road. The doors officially opened in 1989. The little business that started with simple pine furniture, now offers many different wood species and much more complex cabinetry.
The Bakers Furniture family was devastated by Al’s death in June of 2007; however, there was never any doubt that we would continue to live his dream. In fact, his dream has become the goal of each of us at Kitchens by Bakers: We strive to make your cabinetry purchase enjoyable from beginning to end.
